15 UGLY SISTERS
Fiction, Drama, 81:25 min, 1990, 35mm, colour, NTSC.
Synopsis
Amelia (Kathleen Horner) and Lai (Andrea Sadler) are two sisters who live in a remote country village. Their tranquil existence is disturbed by the emergence of Slu (Atilla Bertalan) – an old lover of Amelia’s who has narrowly escaped prison. He spends a week with the two women. Being faced with Lai’s sensitive and fragile beauty, Slu becomes hopelessly attracted. Despite the man’s relentless advances toward her, she resists and an eerie, unrequited love triangle arises. Remaining indifferent to the lust she arouses within him, Lai takes refuge in memories of her youth, which she recounts through poetry and song. In a moment of extreme frustration, the fugitive attempts to consummate his desire for her, against her will. It is then that Lai gives vent to his rage. Passion and tempers rise and fall, flare and die, and when the time is up, death. 15 Ugly Sisters is a poetic film that explores themes of love, attraction and moral bonds between human beings.
